those quilted appliance covers

Did you also grow up with those hideous quilted toaster covers that matched the microwave-oven cover that matched the hot-water-thermos cover and the rice-cooker cover? Thank God my grandmother didn't cover our couches with plastic like Nova Villa did in that 80's TV show of hers (was it Chicks to Chicks?).

Wouldn't it have been much prettier like this?

After all, the cover was to keep the dust away, not hide the appliance, right? And it's not like guests didn't know what was underneath with the cover that fit each appliance so perfectly. So why not put a beatiful print of the microwave on a white canvas cover?

Oh, and that cover with the dog printed on it just cracks me up! :)

empty pool

Sigh. I wish I knew how to swim. Coz pools might as well be empty when you don't know how to swim...

Time to bring out the flats.

I've gotten fat. I don't even need to weigh myself to know this. I feel the weight on the 4-inch-heels I wear to work. So it's time to bring out my flats! And maybe cool it with the Kool-aid a bit.

dear pedestrian

While it is nice that dodging one of you every 2-3 feet makes driving like a video game, I worry coz I am not very good at arcade games. And if I lose, it's more Game-Over for you, than for me.

So I hope you will reconsider these stripes on the road. Though painted on and looking good with a red ensemble, these stripes are not meant to serve an aesthetic purpose. They are designed to keep pedestrians together (yes, not one pedestrian crossing every 2-3 feet) where they can be seen by motorists so walking across the flow of vehicular traffic is done at the safest point.

So, dear pedestrian, please keep to your lane when crossing the street. You wouldn't want me driving on the sidewalk, right?

electric fans

Why aren't there any nice-looking electric fans? Have you ever spied an electric fan in the local home magazines that feature the most beautiful houses in the country? I bet they hide their electric fans inside the closet for the photo shoot because who can live without a fan in the Philippines?

I saw one handsome standfan once. In Anson's Makati. It was made completely out of thick, matte-silver steel and after some research for this post, I learned that it's either called "cast-zinc" or "nickel" or "brushed stainless steel" and that Jenni Epperson got one for herself. The brand is Hunter and here's another Hunter fan with that polished retro design.

Don't you just love that the logo gives the fan a sleek vintage feel all on its own? Unfortunately, pricing is also much like an antique! I remember the one in Anson's was 4 times the cost of a regular standfan! And that chic fan above, crafted from a European nut tree, costs over P20,000! Horror!

If only Apple would get into electric fan manufacturing...

Boy, I wish Standard and Dowell (sorry, I don't think there's a way the names Hanabishi or Asahi will look good, no matter how sleek the design) made affordable, industrial-fan-strong-blowing, aesthetically-pleasing electric fans. So we don't end up either hiding the ghastly-looking fan inside the closet or cropping them out of photos.

Today, I am un-loving...

Today, I am un-loving the fact that balloons these days are filled with regular air (and don't get me started on those unsafe sticks they come with). Kids these days are growing up thinking that balloons aren't meant to fly.

I miss helium-filled balloons.

I miss having to stand on a stool in the house to reach for the balloon I accidentally let go of so it drifted to the ceiling.

I miss the time when balloons were whimsical and you could dream of flying up into the sky with a dozen balloons.

red-handed!

Okay, I confess. I eat cherry Kool-Aid powder in a bowl like this. I wouldn't be caught red-handed though coz I eat it with a spoon. More red-tongued. Haha. And if I knew how to make chocolate icing like this, I would be sneaking this in too while the kids are asleep. After all, I practically only eat the icing on Sonja's Vanilla Sunshine cupcakes - which I hide from the kids too coz it just ruins the whole "finish your food" speech at the dinnertable.

Sigh. Yes, I have a major sweet tooth. Makes life sweeter though - literally. :)
